Abroad...

So we are in a little town in Germany named Huttenberg, I believe, just outside of Gießen (Giessen) about an hour due north of Frankfurt.
I'm learning a little bit of German, though I can't remember a lot of it. Maybe after a few days, I'll start to remember it better... I understand more today than I did yesterday ;)

Today we went to Marburg and walked around the city a bit. All the stores were closed, but we looked in the windows. We walked up to a castle, which was cool. the streets were all cobblestone, and from the castle you could see the town spread out below on both sides...
Then we hiked back down and went to a pub that was set in a basement, wine celler type. Really nice. Great place to enjoy real, good, german beer, in Germany :) mmm...

We are planning on renting a car and driving from Munich, to Salzburg, to Prague, to Berlin, then to Oldenberg, where Val is working. It should be a very fun trip. We leave on the 30th. So you may, or may not, get another blog before we go.

Anyway, I'm having fun. Hope you all are doing well. Talk to you again soon.

Matt

Oh and Sarah, I think your sisters are doing a better job taking care of me right now :) Val has done a wonderful job keeping me in the know on conversations.
But don't worry, I'll not let anything happen, long as I can help it, I assure you.

New Year.

Greetings to you all! Welcome to my new blog!

This is the beginning of a new year for me. And an adventure to start it out right. By this time tomorrow I will be (Technically in Portland, Oregon. But...) on my way to places I have never been. Los Angeles! (We have a four hour lay over.) But better than that, so much better!, Germany! Frankfurt to be exact.

Two and a half weeks, my friends (Val and Katie) and I, will explore the surrounding countryside, and perchance venture further. Who can say?

Germania! Land of my Ancestors (my Mother being full German, and my Father being half)

I get a little thrill, deep inside, each time I think of this trip on which I am about to embark. Hope and pray that it is all, and more, than I imagine it to be.

I say that this is the beginning of a new year, because I'll be starting on a new journal tomorrow. I have been journaling, consistantly, for three years now. Each Year I have filled a sketch book with my thoughts, and I find it to be very satisfying, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested.
This year I may start carrying a small set of watercolors. (if I can find a nice small set, I may just get one of those crayola type we used to have as kids) It would be nice to be able to paint some things, now and then.

So I am off to Germany. I think I have everything I need. Having never been overseas before, I fully expect to forget something that I will later require. But I have faith that God will provide.

Once more. Greetings to you all! Welcome to my new blog! I'll try to post here often enough, and with interesting bits, that you'll find it worth your while to return every so often.
I welcome all comments, be they critical or encouragment, or critical encouragment.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
